Coalition for Sana consists of 23 associations of nature lovers and sports. Along with RibnikMunicipality we are trying for years to prevent this crime against nature and citizens.
As reminder, the investor “LSB Elektrane” from Banja Luka, under the auspices of “Interenergo” Ljubljana, property of “Kelag International” from Austria, is trying to build a small hydro power plant Medna on the sources of the Sana River. Coalition for Sana made economic feasibility study and thus proved unprofitability of the project and a negative financial impact on the budget of the Ribnik Municipality and the Republic of Srpska for the amount of 1,055,988 KM.
Under the motto “Save the Balkan Rivers – stop the dam tsunami” on April 16th, from river Sava in Slovenia started “Balkan Rivers Tour”, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of the Balkan rivers and the threats they are facing. A group of kayakers from all over Europe led by Slovenian former Olympic and founder of Leeway Collective athlete RokRozman, will paddle 16 rivers in 6 Balkan countries and on April 23th they will paddle on Sana. Tour ends on May 20th on the river Vjosa in Albania. For more information visit http://www.balkanrivers.net/en/balkan-rivers-tour.
After seven years of struggle and besides the fact that construction of hydropower plant is ongoing, it is not too late to save Sana. Therefore, we invite you to join us in as greater number as possible to send a message “We won’t give up on Sana”!
