River keepers: "Water has no alternative - electricity production has!"

22.4.2018 - BANJA LUKA (BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA)

At the Earth Day, the Coalition for the Protection of the Rivers of Bosnia and Herzegovina held a working meeting in Banja Luka. The meeting was organized in order to emphasize the importance of the preservation of Bosnia-Herzegovina's rivers. Planned construction of more than 300 hydro power plants threatens to destroy our waters.

The construction of hydroelectric power plants irreversibly destroys rivers of high quality in Bosnia and Herzegovina, most of which are used as drinking water. Hydro power plants have a negative impact on the living world, climate and cause even greater social deployment and greed of individuals at the expense of citizens.

The Coalition for the Protection of the Rivers of Bosnia and Herzegovina gathers 33 members from all over the country who are fighting massive hydroelectric construction. The alternative is seen in improving energy efficiency and the development of electricity generation from solar and wind power plants.

The Coalition meeting was held with the financial assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic under the Transition Promotion Programme.
