Despite forced self-isolation, environmental activists from the Clean Air for Ukraine project are launching an Environmental Knowledge Marathon. The participants can learn how to fight air pollution, understand environmental data, use legal tools and deal with local cases. Symbolically, the marathon started on World Environmental Education Day and will end with the final event on World Environment Day.

"This marathon gives the participants an opportunity not only to attend the webinars as listeners, but also to share their own experience as speakers. Thanks to the financial support of Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Transition programme, as well as the National Endowment for Democracy fund, we were able to find new ways of connecting people during this difficult time. Despite the quarantine measures, we are searching for new ways of connected people during a difficult time and use the restrictive situation for learning and strengthening the civil society,” said Pavlína Filippovová, Arnika's coordinator of the Clean Air for Ukraine project.

On April 15, the first webinar "Public Air Monitoring: Opportunities and Myths" was lectured by Maxym Soroka, PhD in Environmental Safety, a scientific and technical advisor to Clean Air for Ukraine project. During this first webinar, the students learned how the available IоT technologies have changed the scientific and technical approaches to air monitoring, examined the most common myths that hinder the development of public air monitoring, and most importantly, the strategies that ensure its victory.

The next webinar will take place on April 25 and it will focus on the effects of air pollution on human health. Following webinars will focus on topics like the procedure of environmental impact assessment, protection of community rights for a clean and safe environment, creative activism and more.
