Negotiations on a new 'Act on Environmental Protection of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina' started with public hearings in Sarajevo, Mostar, Bihać, and Tuzla.

A bill for the Environmental Protection Act is currently undergoing negotiations according to parliamentary procedure. As a conclusion of the House of Representatives session in June 2014, a comprehensive public debate regarding this bill was held in four cities, Sarajevo, Mostar, Bihać, and Tuzla.

In September 2014, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism held four public hearings on the Bill of the Act on Environmental Protection. This enabled the participation of the public and interested parties to present their proposals and comments for amendments to the bill. There were the representatives of federal, cantonal, and  municipal ministries, as well as institutions, NGOs, international organizations, academics, business organizations, the media, and citizens who have made specific comments and suggestions. Attendance at public hearings was high. 211 people participated in the four public debates, and other members of public may submit their comments about the bill until 3rd October 2014.

Technical support in organizing public hearings was provided by Strengthening Governmental Institutions and Processes in BiH Project (SGIP), funded by USAID, in collaboration with the Association "Aarhus Centre in BiH."
