A shut-down medical waste incinerator at Korle Bu hospital

5.12.2018 - ACCRA

Chickens, goats, dogs and larger lizards are not the only ones living next to incinerator of medical waste of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. People's homes are located just couple of meters from the pile of potentially toxic ash pile full of razors and broken flasks. They grow said chickens here, who run freely with open access to the remaining contaminated waste. Though the incinerator has been shut down almost five years ago, even today it threatens local people's health through the food chain.
